Heidelberg West Resident’s Group

The purpose of the Heidelberg West Resident’s Group is to support the Neighbourhood Renewal governance structure and ensure the Steering Committee and working groups apply the objectives and principles of NR when working with the community.

Feed into the existing Neighbourhood Renewal governance structures and advocate for the needs of community members.

Give information to the Steering Committee about the community priorities that need to be responded to.

Support residents who are involved in NR governance structures (working group and Steering committee) and NR activities to assist them in speaking on behalf of residents broadly

Empower residents to have a voice and advocate for the needs of the community. Empower residents to work with local agencies.

Encourage broad community participation in NR and other community initiatives

Be Proactive in working with the community and agencies and raising local issues.

Present information, recommendations and plans regularly at the steering committee meetings.

Be Issue and Task oriented

Local residents have highlighted a number of issues that require attention.  These areas of concern include but are not limited to:

•Housing issues

•Social isolation and lack of community participation in events etc

•Drug and alcohol issues

•Public spaces, maintenance and safety

Activities that the group may support as a means to address some of these areas are:

•Supporting NR activities such as community events, forums and information days

•Supporting the residents who are involved in NR Steering Committee

•Advocating for resident issues

•Information sharing/open dialogue with other residents
