Daphne Butler was born in Great Britain on the 21st of January 1932. As a teenager Daphne and her family migrated to Pyramid Hill, Victoria during World War II by ship. Daphne travelled by ship to Pyramid Hill and stayed on the ship for 4 months. The ship was called the New Australia.
As Daphne got older she met her first husband and they then got themselves a small house on the farm and soon after had 4 children. The family had no electricity or running water and life was difficult for her moving from England to Australia.
After the passing of her husband Daphne found comfort in her beautiful dog which was a king Charles. Daphne today is still enjoying each day as it comes, in Daphne’s spare time she likes to sit in her chair and read the daily paper. Daphne really enjoys collecting items such as; spoons, leaves, stuffed animals and leafs. Daphne loves animals so much that she collects photos of them to place them on her bedroom walls, when the weather is nice Daphne likes to go out and feed the birds.
Thank you Daphne for sharing your story with us as a part of our project Stories from my life. The time we spent at the Sir William Hill Hotel will always be remembered and we have truly enjoyed getting to know Daphne Butler – The girl who moved from England.
