Janefield Presbyterian Church / St Petka’s Madedonian Church, Mill Park

This three –bay bluestone Gothic Church was built in 1861.  It is believed to have been designed by Patrick Scanlon.  The Advertiser described it as “a fine model of a country church” when it opened.

The community were mainly Scottish settlers in a rural pastoral area.

On the west end, there is a  gabled porch with arched door and hooded windows.

The circular vent above originally had a cross in the middle.

The Church was threatened with demolition in the 1990s following a change in the population and ownership.  It was saved by community action and purchased by the Macedonian Orthodox Church.  Following conservation works it was reconsecrated as St Petka’s in 2000.

The interior now reflects a traditional eastern orthodox Church.

A colourful interpretation sign is situated in front of the church which documents the Church’s history.
