Lone Pine at Eltham High

In 1998, Eltham High School students had the opportunity to plant a Lone Pine sapling, a descendant of the original tree from Gallipoli. A plaque was based nearby:

Lest We Forget

The Lone Pine Garden at Eltham High School was restored in 2016 through an intergenerational community partnership.  Partners included Eltham High School VCAL students, Eltham Men’s Shed, Banyule Nillumbik Learning Employmnet Network (BNLLLEN).  Sponsorship was via the Montmorency / Eltham RSL Trust

A ceremony took place on the 2nd August 2016 to officially open the restored garden and its additional plaque.  August 2016 was the 101st anniversary of the Battle of Lone Pine fought between Australian and Ottoman Empire forces during the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War 1915.
