Ahearn, Thomas A. Epping (deceased) was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1827, and arrived in Melbourne in March 1841.
After farming for two years and paying a two years’ visit to New Zealand, he returned to Victoria, and went to the shearing on some of the principal stations up country, and settled down for a time on Major Davidson’s estate. On the outbreak of the gold fever in 1851, he betook himself to carting to the Bendigo and other diggings, having his own teams on the roads, and obtaining as high as £160 per ton for carriage. In 1857 he settled down on the Mount Pleasant farm at Epping, comprising 250 acres purchased from government.
He was married 20th Janaury 1851, to Miss Bridget Hannan, and on his death left a family of eight chidlren living. The widow now carries on the farm.
