The Windmill House in Diamond Creek was once a prominent landmark but is now surrounded by housing development. It was built in 1973 by a Dutch naturopath and his Australian born wife who raised their family here and ran the naturopath practice from adjoining rooms on the 2 acre block. It includes shingles, a circular staircase and rotating blades and is built of rough, sawn-timber. It is on 1100 square metres with five levels and round walls. With living facilities on the ground floor and upper floors. Another section of the house is fully self- contained with 2 bedrooms, kitchen/living, bathroom and has its own entry. The home has lots of windows, fabulous views from the wrap around deck and sunroom.
The windmill doesn’t do anything besides turn but it is believed to be one of the only button-operated windmills in the world. It is also the only windmill in Australia that is used as a private residence. It is 50-feet (15 m) high and in the early days there were lights on the wings which would look lovely at night.
In 2013 the property was sold to a Swiss born Chef who bought the house as a weekender with plans to turn it into a Bed & breakfast.
