The airfield, which commenced operations in 1920, was bounded by Widford, View, Hartington, Rowan and Trevannion Streets. Then the boundary went east along Heather and Gordon Courts back to Widford.
It was an unlicensed field which operated for 4 years. Its most notable visitor was a Airco DH-9 which in late 1920, carried two daring aviators named Ray Parer and John McIntosh. They had flown and won, the England to Australia air race and being awarded a massive 500 Pounds as winners.
When the State Government was considering sites for an airport of which Essendon was later selected, Glenroy lost out due to the impending electrification of the railway line near its western border.
